Kes is a beautiful Ocampa who has always been somewhat of a dreamer
in her own world and wanted to go along with Voyager on their mission.
She had gone up the the surface of her home planet and was captured by
the Kazon, Neelix rescued her from them with the help of Voyager. Although
she appears to be about 20 human yrs. old she is actually only 3 with a
possibility of about 9 yrs. She also has limited telepathic abilities that
emerged from going from living underground to living in space. Kes loves
to learn new things so she took up the position as medical assistant and
the Doctor started to teach her everything he knew. In her spare time she
started a hydroponics bay in one of the unused Cargo bays aboard Voyager,
she grows vegetables and other plants there. In the the episode "The Gift"
Kes's telepathic abilities evolve rapidly and she discovers another plane
of existence but in the process she starts to resonate to the other plane.
She has to leave in a shuttle or
else she would destroy the ship as she resonated. As she is going into
the new plane she whispers "And this is my gift to you" then throws Voyager
into an impossible speed putting them 9.5 thousand light years closer to
the Alpha Quadrant.
